What’s so great about an avocado?

Question of the day: Why avocado?

Well, since you ask, an avocado is delicious, which is just about the best reason there is for eating one.

But, it is also nutritionally speaking, one of the healthiest fruits you can eat.

It contains good levels of vitamin E, potassium and folates, as well as phytochemicals and antioxidants – as well as a generous dose of cholesterol-lowering monounsaturated fats. Half an avocado contains just 133 calories

Gram for gram an avocado is probably the most nutritious fruit you can consume. As a well-known food writer once told me – “If you were stuck on a desert island and could chose to find only one fruit growing there, it would have to be an avocado”

Avocados are also, as I mentioned, delicious. Why then, is only one in four Brits eating them regularly? Answers on a postcard/email to avocadobrotherhood@gmail.com

By the way, did you see this today?

Thomasina on This Morning - Tommi gives a great plug for avocados, does a lovely guacamole recipe – and tells Phillip Schofield “they’re great for the men!”
